How To: Common Task

  1. Log in to the SMS from a client.
  2. On the SMS toolbar, navigate to the Admin->Server Properties tab.
  3. Select the SNMP tab.

 

How To: Edit SNMP Request Settings

  1. In the Request Settings area, click Edit. The Edit SNMP Server Settings dialog box displays.
  2. In the SNMP Requests Settings dialog box, click Enable SNMP Requests.
  3. For SNMP Version, select Bothv2 or v3.
  4. For SNMP v2, you can restrict access with the SNMP 'get' community name field. The default name is 'tinapc'.
  5. For SNMP v3, enter the following information
    • Engine ID - Identifier for the SNMP application. Generated by the SMS and cannot be edited.
    • User Name - Security name associated with the SNMP application
    • Authentication (verifies the sending end of the authentication packets)
      • Protocol - None, HMAC-MDS, or HMAC_SHA
      • Key - Secret key for the selected protocol. If no protocol is select, this field is not activated.
    • Privacy (encrypts packets between the NMS and Agent)
      • Protocol- None, CBC-DES, or AES
      • Key- Secret key for selected protocol. If no protocol is selected, the field is not activated.
  6. Click OK to return to the SNMP screen.
  7. Click Apply.

 

How To: Configure the SMS to send NMS traps to a destination

  1. In the NMS Trap Destinations area, click Add. The NMS Trap Destination dialog box opens.
  2. Enter the IP Address and Port for the trap destination.
  3. For SNMP Version, select v2 or v3.
  4. For SNMP v2, you can restrict access with the SNMP 'get' community name field. The default name is 'tinapc'.
  5. For SNMP v3, enter the following information:
    • Engine ID - Identifier for the SNMP application
    • User Name - Security name associated with the SNMP application
    • Authentication (verifies the sending end of the authentication packets)
      • Protocol - None, HMAC-MDS, or HMAC_SHA
      • Key - Secret key for the selected protocol. If no protocol is select, this field is not activated.

  6. To send a test trap to the specified destination, click Test.
  7. Click OK to return to the SNMP screen.

How To: Edit an NMS Trap Destination

  1. In the NMS Trap Destinations area, select one of the existing trap destinations displayed in the table.
  2. Click Edit.
  3. Modify the settings as required.
  4. Click OK to return to the SNMP screen.
  5. Click Apply.

 

How To: Delete an NMS Trap Destination

  1. In the NMS Trap Destinations area, select one of the existing trap destinations displayed in the table.
  2. Click Delete.
