When Microsoft has effectively ended support for all software updates, bug fixes, and vulnerability patches - It will not address any vulnerabilities targeted at these OS versions discovered after their official EOS date. While security endpoint products can provide some protection, the underlying vulnerabilities which could leave endpoint vulnerable must be addressed. Due to this, Trend Micro strongly recommends users to migrate to the latest supported OS version as soon as possible.

Please refer to the list of Microsoft Operating Systems that has already reached their Official End-of-Support Dates:

Operating System Official EOS date
Windows 8.1 January 10, 2023
Windows 8 January 12, 2016
Windows SBS 2011 Standard / Service Pack 1 January 14, 2020
Windows SBS 2011 Essentials Service Pack 1
Windows Home Server 2011 Service Pack 1 Apr 12, 2016

For SBS 2011, the support date for this product package is determined by its individual component product's respective lifecycles. This follows the End-of-Support date for Windows Server 2008 R2.

For Windows 8/8.1, Users can still install Security Agent on the machines running on these operating systems but for Worry-Free Business Security Services the last agent build which will be deployed will be the agent build included in the March 2023 hotfix. Other functions, including pattern update, will still work as normal if the license is valid.

Trend Micro Technical Support in some cases may try and provide some best-effort support for clients on these platforms if possible for a period of time.

However, please note that any issue that would require development escalation or creation of new detections specifically for this platform will be not be accepted after the official EOS date.

For any concerns, please contact Trend Micro Technical Support.
