How do I find the certificate serial number on a TippingPoint SMS or virtual SMS (vSMS) system?

Solution

Method 1: Alt+F12 Command (Recommended)

The easiest way to find the certificate serial number is using the keyboard shortcut from the login screen:

1. Navigate to the login screen of your SMS/vSMS system
2. Press Alt+F12 to display the Serial/Certificate Number screen
3. Record the certificate serial number exactly as displayed (case sensitive)
4. Press Alt+F1 to return to the main login screen

Method 2: Physical Unit Label (SMS Only)

For physical SMS units only, you can also find the serial number on:

• The top of the SMS unit on a white sticker label.

Important Notes

• The certificate serial number is case sensitive and must be entered exactly as displayed on the Alt+F12 screen
• This serial number is used as the default password for password recovery operations
• The Alt+F12 method works for both physical SMS and virtual SMS (vSMS) systems
• Use Alt+F1 to return to the login prompt after viewing the certificate information
