Digital Vaccine Packages Moving to a Twice-Weekly Release Cadence
Date of Announcement: 08/18/2026
Effective September 15, 2026, TrendAI™ TippingPoint™ is increasing the release cadence of Digital Vaccine (DV) packages from once a week to twice a week. DV releases will now go out on Tuesdays and Thursdays, rather than only on Tuesdays, with the possibility of more releases in the future. The malware DV release cadence is unaffected by this and will continue to release on Tuesday only.
Why this change is happening
This change is designed to reduce the time between the discovery of a new threat/vulnerability and the delivery of protection to customers. Moving to a twice-weekly cadence means new filters can reach your environment sooner than under the previous weekly schedule, closing the exposure window for newly disclosed threats.
What's changing
New DVs will be released on Tuesday and Thursday. Nothing about the content, testing rigor, or quality of the DV packages themselves is changing, only the frequency at which they are made available.
Effective date
This change takes effect on September 15, 2026. The first Thursday release will occur on September 17, 2026.
What this means for you
  • If you use Automatic Distribution: No action is required if you're fine receiving DV updates twice a week - your system will automatically activate and distribute both the Tuesday and Thursday releases. If you'd rather keep applying DV updates only on Tuesdays, see below.
  • If you use Automatic Activation only (Distribution off): This doesn't change how DVs reach your managed devices - that still depends on how you distribute today, whether manually or through your own Scheduled Distribution rule. No changes needed on the Activation side.
  • If you use Scheduled Distribution already configured for a Tuesday-only schedule:
    • If Automatic Activation is off: no changes - this behaves exactly as it does today.
    • If Automatic Activation is on: no action required, but note that the SMS will show the newest DV (e.g., Thursday's) as "active" for several days before your Tuesday distribution catches up. Your devices remain protected by whatever was last actually distributed; this is expected, not an error.
  • If you currently rely on Automatic Distribution but only want DV updates applied on Tuesdays: Disable Automatic Distribution only - leave Automatic Download and Automatic Activation enabled - and configure a Scheduled Distribution rule for Tuesday only. Steps below.
Note: If you evaluate a DV before distributing it - for example, reviewing Tuesday's DV but not distributing until later in the week - using "Latest Available" in your Scheduled Distribution rule is no longer safe under the twice-weekly cadence. A newer DV (e.g., Thursday's) may already have replaced "Latest Available" by the time your schedule runs. Specify the exact DV version you evaluated instead, and update that selection each time.
How to switch from Automatic Activation/Distribution to a Tuesday-only Scheduled Distribution
  1. Log in to the SMS (Security Management System) client.
  2. Navigate to Profiles > Digital Vaccines, and open the Auto DV Settings.
  3. Disable Automatic Distribution only - leave Automatic Download and Automatic Activation enabled. (You'll see the SMS's active DV get ahead of what's actually distributed to devices between releases - that's expected; see the note above.)
  4. Navigate to Profiles > Scheduled Distributions.
  5. Create or update a Scheduled Distribution rule, set it to run on Tuesdays only at your preferred time, and select "Latest Available" as the DV - unless you evaluate DVs before distributing, in which case select the specific DV version you've evaluated instead. If Automatic Download or Automatic Activation is currently off, the SMS will prompt you to enable them. This is a global setting change that applies to all your Scheduled Distributions, not just this one - if you have other schedules deliberately configured with these settings off (for example, an evaluate-before-distributing setup), confirm that won't break before clicking Yes.
  6. Save and verify the schedule reflects Tuesday-only distribution going forward.
Frequently Asked Questions
  • Will the quality or testing of DV filters change? No. The testing and validation process for each DV package is unchanged; only the release cadence is increasing.
  • Do I have to update twice a week now? No. You control your own distribution settings. If you want to continue updating only once a week, configure a Scheduled Distribution for Tuesday only, as described above or distribute manually.
  • Will the Malware DV also update twice-weekly? No. The Malware DV release cadence is unchanged.
