Summary

When opening WFBS console on Windows Server 2012, you get the error message:

HTTP 500 Internal Server Error

When you check the IIS logs, it shows:

To fix the issue:

Open the Command Prompt (cmd.exe).
Change the directory to "%windir%\system32\inetsrv\" and type the following:
appcmd.exe set config -section:system.webServer/httpCompression /-[name='xpress']
Launch the WFBS console. You should be able to access and log in to the console successfully.
