MS Windows 10 KB4535996 Update Causing Freeze and Installation Issues

Summary

Microsoft released an optional update (KB4535996) for Windows 10 last February 27,2020. This update intends to fix the Windows Search and printing glitches. But few days after the release, users who have installed this update have been reporting issues about receiving error message: "A driver can't load on this device". This error appears because the Memory integrity setting in Windows Security is preventing a driver from loading on the device. Aside from this error message, some users have also reported random freezes on their machines.

Trend Micro recommends not to install this update or remove it first if already installed as this might affect the performance and functionality of the following Trend Micro Endpoint Products: Worry-Free Business Security (WFBS), Worry-Free Business Security Services (WFBS-SVC), ApexOne and OfficeScan (OSCE). You may follow the steps below for the uninstallation procedure:

  1. From the Windows Desktop Search type ‘Update History’ then click View your Update history.
  2. Select Uninstall Updates.
  3. On the Installed Updates window, look for KB4535996 and click Uninstall.
  4. Restart the computer.
 
You can also download Windows Update troubleshooter, which will enable you to block KB4535996 proactively / stop it from reinstalling.
