Configuring Windows Group Policy to allow Trend Micro Portable Security (TMPS) device

This article will guide TMPS users on how to configure Windows Policy settings in order to restrict installation and access of unauthorized USB device while allowing TMPS device.

Follow these steps:

  1. For OS requirements, use least Windows Vista (Desktop).
  2. Clear all of currently installed Removable Disk Devices. Run > msc > View > Show hidden device. Right click on a USB Device and click Uninstall Device.
  3. Navigate to Policy > Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Device Installation > Device Installation Restriction. Use the following policies with their specific configuration:
    • Prevent Installation of devices not described by other policy

      Policy: Prevent Installation of devices not described by other policy
      Setting: Enable

    • Allow installation of devices that match any of these device IDs

      Policy: Allow installation of devices that match any of these device IDs
      Setting: Enable
      Allow installation of devices that match any of these Device IDs:

      TMPS3USB\VID_2203&PID_3838
      USBSTOR\DiskTM______TMPS3_DISK______
      TMPS2USB\VID_2203&PID_3837
      USBSTOR\DiskTM______TMPS2_DISK______
  4. Once configured you may check the results:
    • Other USB Devices – Blocked
    • TMPS Device – Allowed
