"Error Number: -1073741819" appears when opening MSA Console and Real-Time Monitor

Summary

When accessing Messaging Security Agent Configuring Policy and Real-time Monitor, it shows a System error message of "Error Number: -1073741819". This error is due to ComputerName\Users group lacks of the privileges for Messaging Security Agent folder "..\Program Files\Trend Micro\Messaging Security Agent\web" and its parent folder.

  1. Go to the Start menu then Run and type and services.msc.
  2. Stop Trend Micro Messaging Security Agent Master Service.
  3. In the  "..\Program Files\Trend Micro" folder, go to Properties > Security > Advanced.

     
    This "..\Program Files\Trend Micro" directory is the folder before Messaging Security Agent folder and not the one before Security Server folder.
     
  4. Add the following privileges to ComputerName\Users group for the folder and then click Replace all child object permission entries with inheritable permission entries from this object.

    • Read & execute
    • List folder contents
    • Read

  5. In the "..\Program Files\Trend Micro\Messaging Security Agent\web" folder, go to Properties > Security > Advanced.
  6. In  the Advanced Security Settings for web folder, confirm that the privileges of ComputerName\Users group has inherited from the parent folder.

  7. Clear the Browser Cache.
  8. Go the Services and start Trend Micro Messaging Security Agent Master Service.
  9. You should be able to open the Messaging Security Agent Configure Policy or Real-Time Monitor successfully.

If the issue still occurs, contact Trend Micro Technical Support and provide the Case Diagnostic Tool (CDT) log generated on the server.
