Improving disk IO performance with iDRAC under DDEI 7100 v1 and DDEI 7100 v2

DELL R420 (DDEI 7100 v1) and R430 (DDEI 7100 v2) BIOS configurations keep DISK cache default value, and the default value is “disabled”.

This means that under some high cost IO usage situations, such as high traffic throughput or having large number of users and groups in integrated LDAP server, error may occur on DDEI due to the IO performance.

In this article, it will enumerate the steps on how to enable disk cache to improve the DISK IO performance.

Trend Micro recommends performing the following steps to improve disk IO performance.

  1. Open your browser and log in to iDRAC using the URL: https://IDRAC_IP, then go to Storage > Virtual Disks.

  2. Go to the Virtual Disks tab then click Manage. The virtual disks and controller appears.

  3. Select Virtual Disk Actions then choose Edit Policy: Disk Cache.

  4. Choose Enabled then click Apply.

  5. Check the job under job queue.

  6. Reboot DDEI server for the configuration to take effect.
