Adding devices to the Global Allowed USB Device List in Worry-Free Business Security Services (WFBS-SVC)

This article guides users/administrators on how to add their USB Devices are getting blocked or if they are unable to use their device because of the device control feature.

  1. Log on to the WFBS-SVC console.
  2. To configure the Allowed USB Device List, go to Policy Settings > Global Exception Lists.
  3. On the Device Control part, Click Allowed USB Device List.
  4. To add an exception:

    1. Click Add.
    2. Specify the vendor name of the device and optionally specify the device model and serial ID.

      To obtain the device information:

      • Download and run the Device List Tool on the Windows endpoint where the external device is connected.

        For details on how to use the tool, refer to Running the Device List Tool.

      • Check the System Information on the Mac endpoint where the external device is connected.

        For the details, refer to Getting Device Information on Mac.

      • Check the Device Control log details if Device Control violations have occurred.

    3. Optionally provide a note regarding the reason for the exception.
    4. Click one of the following:

      • Add: Adds the exception to the list
      • Add Another Device: Adds the exception to the list and lets you add another device information

The wildcard character "*" is also supported for adding USB Device list.

For example:

<usbException vendorName="SANDISK" model="*" serialNo="*"/>

You can also specify a value such as "123456789*" or "*123456" to filter a smaller set of devices.

However, a value with more than one wildcard character is not allowed. For example, "*12345*".

If the exclusion is not working ensure that the policy in device control is set to full permission for the global Allowed USB Device List.

To Specify the permission:

  1. Log on to the WFBS-SVC console.
  2. Go to the Configure Policy page and perform one of the following:

    • Classic Mode: Go to SECURITY AGENTS and select a group. Click on the Menu icon (three vertical dots) then click Configure Policy.
    • Advanced Mode: Go to POLICIES > Policy Management. Click Add or click an existing policy.
  3. In the Configure Policy page, click on the Windows icon.
  4. Select Device Control > Exceptions.
  5. Go to USB Devices then select the permission, If we want to allow USB devices under Global Exception Allowed USB Device list select Full Permission.
 

The permission only applies when you select Block or Read for USB storage devices on the Endpoint Settings tab.
