Enable ICMP (ping) for Smart Protection Servers for monitoring purposes

When attempting to set up an alert that would detect the network interface on the SPS appliances using ICMP. By default, ICMP is disabled in SPS for security purposes. This article will show you how to enable ICMP for Smart Protection Servers for monitoring.

For SPS version 3.0 and up, please do the following.

  1. Log on to the Smart Protection Server Command Line Interface (CLI).
  2. Type "#vi /etc/trend/etc/network.ini" and press ENTER. Look for "enable_ping=" and change its value to "Yes".
  3. Save and exit.
  4. Reboot SPS.

Test the ICMP connectivity to Smart Protection Server by pinging it with IP address or host name from another machine.
