Installing clients using Remote Install from the web console in OfficeScan/Apex One

Summary

Remotely install OfficeScan/Apex One clients from the web console to one or several computers connected to the network. To use this method, ensure that you have administrator rights to the target computers. This does not install the OfficeScan/Apex One client on a computer already running the OfficeScan/Apex One server.

 
A pure IPv6 server cannot install the OfficeScan/Apex One client on pure IPv4 clients. Similarly, a pure IPv4 server cannot install the OfficeScan/Apex One client on pure IPv6 clients.

OfficeScan/Apex One Server Pre-requisite

  1. Enable Services:
    1. Open Run and type "services.msc".

  2. Enable Network Discovery/File and Printer Sharing.
    1. Open Run and type "control".

    2. Click Network and Internet > Network and Sharing > Change Advanced Sharing Settings.

    3. Turn On Network Discovery and File and Printer Sharing.

    4. Click Save Changes.

Endpoint Pre-requisite

  1. Enable Network Discovery/File and Printer Sharing:
    1. Open Run and type "control".

    2. Click Network and Internet > Network and Sharing > Change Advanced Sharing Settings.

    3. Turn On Network Discovery and File and Printer Sharing.

    4. Click Save Changes.
  2. Enable Services:
    1. Open Run and type "services.msc".

    2. Start Remote Registry and Remote Procedure Call services.

  1. In the web console, go to Agents > Agent Installation > Remote.

  2. Select the target endpoints.
    • The Domains and Endpoints list displays all the Windows domains on the network. To display endpoints under a domain, double-click the domain name. Select any endpoint, and then click Add.
    • If you have a specific endpoint name in mind, type the endpoint name in the Search for endpoints field on top of the page and press ENTER.
    • If no endpoints are showing on the Remote Installation page, Check the following on the Server Side if these services are enabled, then refresh the page afterwards:
      • For Windows Server 2008 R2 - 2016:
        • Remote Registry and Computer Browser
        • Network Discovery/File and Printer Sharing
      • For Windows Server 2019:
        • Function Discovery Provider Host
        • Function Discovery Resource Publication
        • Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
        • Remote Registry
      • Turn on Network Discovery (All Versions) on the Services applet:
        • SSDP Discovery
        • UPnP Device Host
        • DNS Client
  3. Type the user name and password and then click Log in. The target endpoint appears in the Selected Endpoints table.

  4. Repeat steps 3 and 4 to add more endpoints.
  5. Click Install when you are ready to install the OfficeScan agent to target endpoints.

  6. Click OK to confirm that you want to install the OfficeScan agent to the target endpoints. A progress screen appears as the program files copy to each target endpoint.

    When OfficeScan completes the installation to a target endpoint, the endpoint name disappears in the Selected Endpoints list and appears in the Domains and Endpoints list with a red check mark.

If you install to multiple endpoints, OfficeScan records any unsuccessful installation in the logs (For details, see Fresh Installation Logs), but it will not postpone the other installations. You do not have to supervise the installation after you click Install. Check the logs later to see the installation results.
 
  • Issue: No endpoints are showing on the Remote Installation page.

    Common OSCE Remote Installation Issues

    Solution: Enable Computer Browser Service (Server 2008 R2 - Server 2016 via SMBv1) or Function Discovery Resource Publication (Windows Server 2019 via SMBv2) on the OfficeScan server.

  • Issue: User account is not a domain admin.

    Solution: Use a domain admin account.

  • Issue: The "To install on a remote endpoint, use an account with administrator privileges. If target endpoint is running Windows Vista Basic, remote installation cannot proceed because there is no remote registry service." message appears.

    Solution: Enable Remote Registry service on the endpoints.

  • Issue: Firewall is blocking installation.

    Solution: Set the Domain Profile, Private Profile, and Public Profile in Firewall to "Off" in the endpoint.
