By default, Data ONTAP's vscan module of NetApp is configured with mandatory_scan enabled. Vscan will deny access to files which are not successfully scanned by a Scan Server.

To address this problem, you need to check the connection of the Scan Servers to the NetApp filer. There must be at least one (1) online Scan Server that can scan the filer. Lost connection means scanning is not performed successfully.

Once connection is restored, access to the files will be restored. To check the status of your scanners, log on to the NetApp filer, then type the command "vscan" on the command console.

If you need to temporarily allow access to files, you can turn off mandatory scan. Use the following command to disable Mandatory Scan:

vscan options mandatory_scan off

Files not scanned can pose a security threat to machines accessing them.
