Summary

When the Security Server has no Internet connection or one of the agents is not connected to the Server, you can manually update the pattern file by following the steps in this article. This can also be used to update the server and agents using an Official Pattern Release (OPR) or a Controlled Pattern Release (CPR).

The Official Pattern Release or OPR is Trend Micro's latest compilation of patterns for identified viruses. It is guaranteed to have passed a series of critical tests to ensure that customers get optimum protection from the latest virus threats.

A Controlled Pattern File Release (CPR) is a manually loadable, pre-release version of a Trend Micro virus protection database, designed to provide users with additional antivirus protection in between official pattern file releases.

Manually Updating the Pattern File of a Security Server

  1. Download the Official Pattern Release (OPR).
  2. Extract the pattern file lpt$vpn.xxx (where xxx refers to the pattern file version) to the ...\PCCSRV folder. For example, C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\SecurityServer\PCCSRV\. After a few minutes, the Security Server will deploy the new pattern file to the agents.

Manually Updating the Pattern File of Security Agents (including Hosted Agents)

  1. Download the Official Pattern Release (OPR).
  2. Log on to the Security Agent as an administrator.
  3. Stop the Security Agent services. To manually stop the services, open the services console by typing services.msc on the Windows Start box. You can also open the services console by going to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services (Windows NT/2000/XP client machines) or by going to Computer Management (right-click Computer > Manage) and opening Services and Applications > Services(newer client machines). Once inside the Services console, stop the following services:
    • Client Server Security Agent Listener or Trend Micro Security Agent Listener
    • Client Server Security Agent RealTime Scan or Trend Micro Security Agent Real-time Scan
    • Trend Micro Security Agent Firewall
    • Trend Micro Security Agent Proxy Service.

Alternatively, you can also unload the Security Agent.
  4. Extract the pattern file (lpt$vpn.xxx, where xxx is the pattern file number) to the Client Security Agent directory. For example, C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\Client Server Security Agent\ or  C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\Security Agent\.
  5. Restart the services in Step 3 or reload the Security Agent. To reload the Security Agent, click Start > Programs > Trend Micro Client/Server Security Agent > Client/Server Security Agent.
