Installing ServerProtect 5.8 Normal Server on Novell NetWare

This article provides pre-installation, installation and post installation configuration procedures for Serverprotect Normal Server on Novell NetWare.

Do the following:
  1. Have a local machine (normally Windows machine) with SPNT 5.8 Information Server and management console ready.
  2. Install the "Client Server for NetWare" on the Windows machine. This can automatically install the following:
    • Client Server for NetWare, NWLink NetBIOS
    • NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS Compatible Transport Protocol
  3. Use IP to test a connection between NetWare and Windows.
  4. Test the File and Print share function between NetWare and Windows.
    • Go to My Network Places > Entire Network .
    • Select the NetWare or Compatible Network .
    • Go to the shared NetWare directory, SYS:\, using the NetWare administrator account with Full Control.
Do the following:
  1. On the Windows machine where the Information Server is installed, execute the SPNT58.exe file to run the installation.
  2. Use the same steps as the remote installation to install the Normal Server to NetWare by selecting the UNC path (by default, \SYS:SProtect).
  3. Enter the NetWare Administrator account to finish the installation.
    Important: Do not quit from the installation page yet.
  4. Log on to the NetWare console and then type in "SPNW" to load the Normal Server.
  5. Once the Normal Server has been loaded on NetWare, which means the registration is finished, you can quit the installation page/process.
Post Installation Configuration
In case the SPNW is not registered to the Information Server, do the following to manually register it:
  1. Log on to the management console and then go to IS > Domain .
  2. Select Add a Normal Server .
  3. Under "Connect to servers", select Netware or compatible network .
  4. Select the target Netware server.
  5. Under "Server Type", tick the Netware server running IP protocol check box.
  6. Under "Netware option", input the IP/IPX address of Netware server .
The Netware Normal Server will now be displayed in the management console.
