Zip files accumulate on Netware servers running ServerProtect

    • Updated:
    • 29 Apr 2013
    • Product/Version:
    • ServerProtect for Microsoft Windows/Novell Netware 5.8
    • Platform:
    • Netware version 6.0
    • Netware version 6.5
Summary
ServerProtect 5.8 for Netware servers are showing a lot of zip files accumulating under sys\login\sprotect volume. This is taking up a lot of space and causing issues on the NetWare servers. The naming convention of these files follows VSAPIXXX.zip, where XXX is the pattern number.
For example:
vsapi987.zip
vsapi991.zip
vsapi107.zip
The Netware Servers having this issue are running ServerProtect 5.8 Build 1118. They are also running very old pattern file. Attempting to push out the pattern files to these servers returns an error in the Update logs seen in the ServerProtect management console:
20110013
Details
Public
To resolve this issue, apply Patch 2 for ServerProtect 5.8. This will update the build version on the Netware servers.
This issue is caused by a soft abend (abnormal termination) in ServerProtect, which is addressed in Patch 2.
Once Patch 2 is deployed and the Netware servers are updated, the pattern files will automatically remove the old vsapi.zip files in the ..\sys\login\sprotect directory the next time there is a successful pattern update.
