Methods in installing Data Loss Prevention (DLP) Endpoint

    • Updated:
    • 24 Nov 2016
    • Product/Version:
    • Data Loss Prevention Endpoint
    • Data Loss Prevention Endpoint 5.5
    • OfficeScan 10.6
    • OfficeScan 11.0
    • OfficeScan 11.0
    • Platform:
    • Windows 2003 Enterprise
    • Windows 2003 Standard
    • Windows 2008 Standard
    • Windows 7 32-bit
    • Windows Vista 32-bit
    • Windows XP Home
    • Windows XP Professional
The DLP Endpoint has two kinds of installation programs, Dtool and install.bat. Using install.bat is recommended if the environment has SCCM. Otherwise, Dtool is the first choice for deployment.
Using the Dtool
Dtool can install and uninstall agents locally and remotely.
To use this tool, execute the following command:
dtool.exe [-i|-u] [-cpara=value] [-ppwd] [-n] [-sb] [-s] [-q] [-dx] [-f<x>] [-v] [Host]
Parameter limitations:
  • The "-f<x>" means one computer IP or name in each line in the file <x>. No space allowed before or after the name/IP.
    <x> file example:
  • The "-ppwd" indicates that "Pwd" is the protection password. The length of the password is between 1~20 characters. The password should contain a combination of the [a-z][A-Z] [0-9] and [~!@#$^&*()_+-={}[];:,.?] characters.
For example, 123 is the password:
    Install: dtool -i -clink_ip= -p123
    Uninstall:dtool -u -p123
  • The option Host is the remote computer IP or HostName. It must be the last parameter, if it exists.
  • When the HostName parameter conflicts with option "-f<x>", use any of the following:
    • dtool.exe -i -flist.txt
    • dtool.exe -i Trend_CDC
    However, you cannot use "dtool.exe -i -flist.txt Trend_CDC".
  • The "-cpara=value" is used only in installation cases (combined with "-i"). You should specify the agent parameters. No space characters allowed.
  • If the password was set during installation, the same password must be provided to install an agent using Dtool. The password protection option is used for installation and uninstallation.
  • Dtool will set by option "-c" during installation. Therefore, Dtool will have higher priority.
Using the install.bat
MSI bat scripts are DLP Endpoint 5.5 batch file (install.bat/uninstall.bat). They are used to install/uninstall DLP Endpoint, along with DLPforEndpoint.msi.
To use this tool, execute the following commands:
install.bat ServerIP [MsiPath] [n] [log] [nohide]
uninstall.bat [MsiPath] [n] [log]
Parameter limitations:
  • The "ServerIP" is a required installation parameter.
  • The "MsiPath" is the absolute path of MSI package. The UNC path is also accepted, and if a full path is omitted, the current path is used.
  • In installing, ServerIP must be the first parameter. MsiPath must be the second parameter if it exists. In uninstalling, MsiPath must be the first parameter if it exists.
  • The "[nohide]" shows the agent folder and service. If you do not use this option, you may not see the service/process/folder in the endpoint computer. This will add the "hide_me=false" to the file.
Note: Installation logs will be located in the target machine's root drive: c:\InstallDLPforEndpoint.log. Uninstallation lgs will also be located in the target machine's root drive: c:\UninstallDLPforEndpoint.log.
