This article enumerates the steps to install the OfficeScan Data Protection plug-in service, as well as discusses how to deploy DLP to OSCE agents.
To install the OfficeScan Data Protection plug-in service:
- Log in to the OfficeScan management console.
- Go to Plug-ins.
- Look for OfficeScan Data Protection and then click Download.
If an update session is in progress, the download will not proceed. To stop the ongoing update and continue with DLP installation, refer to the KB article: OfficeScan Data Protection does not appear under Plug-in Manager.
- Click Install Now then Agree to the End User License Agreement (EULA).
- Once finished, go back to Plug-ins.
- Under OfficeScan Data Protection, click Manage Program.
- Enter the Activation Code.
You will receive instructions on how to deploy Data Protection. - Click the Get Started link for either Digital Asset or Device Control to know the deployment details.
- Verify if the plug-in service is installed. Click the Data Protection Agent Management link.
You can also go to Agents > Agent Management > Agent tree view > Data protection view. This only supports IPv4.
Data Protection Service is supported in Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8/8.1/10, and Windows Server 2003/2008/2012/2016.

To deploy and install DLP on the endpoints of the OfficeScan web console:
- Navigate to Agents > Agent Management > Settings > Additional Service Settings.
- Tick Enable Data Protection Service and click Save.
This will trigger the installation on the Agent.
After enabling Data Protection Service, we need to configure the DLP Settings or Device Control Settings to the initial DLP driver deploying to OSCE agent. Afterwards, the "Restart computer" message will pop up on the OSCE agent.
To configure DLP Settings or Device Control Settings:
- Go to Agents > Agent Management > <domain or agent>.
- Deploy the module using one of the following methods:
- Go to Settings > DLP Settings.
- Go to Settings > Device Control Settings.
Once the Installation is complete, the OfficeScan Agent would need to reboot. This can be verified on the agent itself. There should be a popup notification.
