"Could not find web user account (IUSR_/IWAM_)…" appears when installing Control Manager (TMCM)

    • Updated:
    • 14 Oct 2015
    • Product/Version:
    • Control Manager 6.0
    • Platform:
    • Windows 2008 Enterprise
    • Windows 2008 Standard
Summary

The following error message appears during TMCM installation:

Could not find web user account (IUSR_/IWAM_). Please help to check the Internet Information Server setting.

This error message means that IIS installation on Windows Server 2008 did not create the Internet guest account name IUSR/IWAM or the IUSR local account user is currently disabled.

To resolve this issue:

  1. Verify if the IUSR account exists on the local Windows 2008 Server and is currently enabled.

    1. Go to Computer Management > System Tools > Local Users and Groups > User.
    2. Verify that both the "IUSR_*" accounts are enabled.

On Windows 2008, if we disabled the Anonymous Authentication, you will encounter the "401.2" error when logging in to the TMCM console after finishing the installation.

If you really want to disabled Anonymous Authentication without getting any error message:

    1. Open the IIS Manager.
    2. Locate Authentication.
    3. Disable Anonymous Authentication option. The users should be the IUSR account.
  2. Verify if IIS 6 Management Compatibility management role is installed.

    1. Open the Server Manager.
    2. Click Go to Roles and review installed Role Services. Look for the IIS 6 Management Compatibility role that is installed.
  3. If the Internet guest accounts and IIS 6 Management Compatibility role are installed and enabled, check the IIS Anonymous Authentication account used.

    1. Open the IIS Manager.
    2. Go to the "ServerName (domain\admin)" object.
    3. Right-click on Authentication and then select Open Feature.
    4. Check if the Anonymous Authentication option is enabled. Current users should be the IUSR account.
