Summary
After successfully installing ScanMail for Exchange on an Exchange 2010 Client Access Server/Hub Transport Server (CAS/HT) role, the following services could not be started:
- ScanMail for Microsoft Exchange Master Service
- ScanMail for Microsoft Exchange Remote Configuration Server
Trying to manually start the services generates similar to the following error in the event logs:

Details
To resolve this issue, change the SMEX installation folder property.
For example: C:\Program Files\Trend Micro
- Select the Allow files in this folder to have contents indexed in addition to file properties option.
- Leave the other properties unselected.
If you installed successfully, then start the services. Otherwise, perform another installation.
