Credentials

Administrator-level privileges are required for remote installation. If the machine is part of a domain, the domain administrator account (i.e. domain name\admin name) will work.

The administrator can also use the built-in administrator account. In Windows Vista, 7 and Server 2008, this account is disabled by default.

To remotely install the OfficeScan client, enable the built-in administrator using the following steps:

  1. Go to Start > Control Panel > Administrative tools > Computer Management. This opens the Computer Management window.

The arrow pointing downward indicates that the account is disabled.

    Computer Management

  2. Right-click Administrator and click Properties. This opens the Administrator Properties window.

    Administrator Properties

  3. Untick the Account is disabled checkbox to permit the OfficeScan installation.

Once the account is enabled, the arrow shown in Step 1 will disappear.

Remote Registry service

In Windows Vista, 7, and Server 2008, the Remote Registry service is disabled by default. OfficeScan administrators must enable this service manually in the client machine or via Group Policy Object (GPO).

Services

File and Print Sharing

The file and print sharing functionality is required to deploy clients via remote installation. However, the Windows Firewall does not permit remote folder access by default.

Configure the firewall of the client machine to permit the remote installation.

  1. Click the Start button > Control Panel > System and Security > Windows Firewall.
  2. Select Allow a program or feature through Windows Firewall.
  3. Tick File and Printer Sharing and then click OK.

Windows Firewall Allowed Programs

The Web Install and Notify Install deployment methods are only available if Microsoft Internet Explorer is set to Run as administrator in the client machine. To do this, right-click Windows Explorer and select Run as administrator.
