Summary
Because the settings defined in a policy will overwrite the settings in the product itself (e.g. OfficeScan’s real-time scan), you should know how to:
- Identify which policy settings will be deployed.
- Choose the specific policy settings to deploy.

Identifying which policy settings will be deployed
It is important to know which policy settings will be deployed because these will overwrite the settings of the target product on deployment.
To verify which policy settings will be deployed, check the following in the TMCM console:
- Go to Policies > Policy Management.
- Select the type of product settings from the Product list.
- Click a policy name in the Policy column. A list of policy settings will appear in either black or gray, indicating the following:
- Policy settings in BLACK will be deployed.
- Policy settings in GRAY will NOT be deployed.
Choosing which policy settings to deploy
By default, all policy settings will be deployed. To select policy settings to deploy, open your TMCM console and do the following:
- Go to Policies > Policy Management.
- Select the type of product settings from the Product list.
- Click a policy name in the Policy column. A list of policy settings will appear.
- Click the Show Permissions button.
- Check the toggle controls at the right of each policy setting. These indicate the following:
- Blue (Centrally Managed) means the setting will be deployed to the product, overwriting the product’s default settings. Policy settings are centrally managed by default.
- Orange (Locally Managed) means that the setting will not be deployed and will not overwrite the product’s settings.
- Select which setting should be centrally or locally managed. You can further configure centrally managed settings by clicking the specific policy setting to show its configuration options. When done, click Save.
- Click Hide Permissions to hide the toggle controls.
Your centrally managed settings in the list will appear in black while the locally managed ones will be in gray.
