Importing an iPhone Configuration Utility (iPCU) profile in Hosted Mobile Security (HMS)

The iPCU is a utility provided by Apple Inc. that lets a third-party service, such as HMS, securely manage iOS devices.
An iPCU can:
  • install configuration profiles
  • install provisioning profiles
  • track and install authorized apps
  • monitor the device with logs An iPCU configuration profile enables an iOS device to work in an enterprise environment.
The profile, which is in XML, contains:
  • Device security policies
  • VPN configuration settings
  • Wi-Fi settings
  • APN settings
  • Exchange account settings
  • Email settings
  • Certificates
iPCU profiles and HMS policies use compatible formats and if you need to deploy advanced configuration settings to iOS devices, the easiest way is to import an iPCU profile into HMS and associate this profile with a policy.

To import an iPCU profile:
  1. Create an iPCU profile. If you already have an iPCU profile, proceed to Step 2.
    1.  Download and install the iPCU tool from www.apple.com
    2. Customize profile settings to suit your requirements. For more detailed information, refer to the documentation that came along with the iPCU tool.
    3. Export the profile.
  2. Import the iPCU profile into a policy.
    1. Go to Policies > {policy} > Advanced. The iPCU Configurations screen will appear.
    2. Click Import Profile.
    3. Click Browse to select the profile.
    4. Select the profile (.mobileconfig) and click Upload. The raw configuration settings will be shown.
    5. Review the settings.
    6. Click Save and Publish. The settings will be published to all iOS devices using the policy you created.
