"Sync Failed" error appears after deploying the Active Directory (AD) Sync Client to synchronize with Hosted Email Security (HES)

Summary

Synchronizing the AD Sync Client in your network with AD users in HES fails and you receive the following error under History:

||Sync failed||The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized

To resolve this issue:

  1. Log in to the HES console.
  2. Go to Administration > Web Services & Tools and get the User Name & Service Authentication Key. If there is no key displayed, generate one using the Generate New Key button.

  3. Configure the AD Sync Client network settings.
    1. Open the Active Directory Synchronization Tool. The Network Settings dialog box appears.

    2. Enter the User Name & Service Authentication Key retrieved in Step 2:

      • On the User Name field, enter the User Name.
      • On the Service Auth Key field, input the Service Authentication Key.

    3. Click Apply.
