Installing Policy Server in Endpoint Encryption 5.0

This article discusses how to install Policy Server.

To install Policy Server:

  • For security reasons, legacy Endpoint Encryption agents cannot communicate directly with a PolicyServer instance residing in a different network.
  • Verify that all system requirements are met.
  1. Run PolicyServerInstaller.exe.
    The Policy Server Installer opens.
  2. At the Policy Server Services screen, click Install at the right.
  3. At the Product Legal Notice screen, read the license agreement and accept the terms by clicking Accept.
  4. At the Product Activation screen, do any of the following:
    • Select Register Online to go to register the license.
    • Select Use a full license to specify the Activation Code and have full functionality.
    • Select Use a trial license to evaluate a managed Endpoint Encryption configuration for 30 days.
  5. At the Create Enterprise Name and Administrator Logon screen, specify the following credentials that are used to manage Policy Server from the PolicyServer MMC or Control Manager:
    • Enterprise Name
    • Administrator
    • Password
    • Confirm Password
  6. Click Continue.
  7. At the Windows Service Logon screen, click Continue. The default settings are appropriate for most environments.
  8. At the Database Administrator Logon screen, do the following:
    1. Select Microsoft SQL Express to create a new database instance.
    2. Select SQL Server to specify a Microsoft SQL Server instance, and then specify the following parameters: SQL Server, username and password.
    3. Select Use a different log database server to specify a different SQL Server instance for log data.
  9. Click Continue.
    The installer verifies the database connection.
  10. At the Create Database Logon screen, specify a new database account for the PolicyServer Windows Service to use for all database transactions.
    Note: Do not specify the sysadmin account.
  11. At the Endpoint Encryption Service screen, specify the following parameters:
    • Port number
    • Automatically generate a new self-signed certificate
    • Specify an existing certificate
  12. Click Continue.
  13. At the Legacy Agent Service screen, select the location that legacy Endpoint Encryption agents (version 3.1.3 and below) use to communicate with PolicyServer, then click Continue.
  14. To immediately install Policy Server MMC, click Yes. 
    The installation process begins.
  15. When prompted, click OK.
  16. Click Finished.
  17. Click Exit to close the Policy Server installer.
  18. Restart the server.
  19. Add the initial Endpoint Encryption users and groups.
