Impact of Deep Discovery Advisor (DDA) that hangs on InterScan Messaging Security Virtual Appliance (IMSVA)

Summary
When DDA hangs, IMSVA cannot receive analysis reports from it. You want to know if the mails are queued on IMSVA and get delayed.

When ATSE and DDA are enabled on IMSVA console, the mail with virus attachment is processed normally. For the mail with suspicious attachment, the attachment is not deleted from the message although modify actions such as Delete and Clean Virus are configured. After the modify actions other than Delete and Clean Virus are set, a copy of the mail is sent to DDA while the original mail is processed according to the intercept action.
One of the following will happen depending on the intercept action:
  • If the intercept action is not Quarantine, the email with suspicious file (except the mail tagged with Delete action) is delivered to the recipient and the risk rating from DDA is recorded.
  • If the intercept action is Quarantine, the risk rating from DDA serves as determinant whether the email will be reprocessed or not from the quarantine queue.
Therefore, when DDA hangs, the mails with suspicious attachments are processed with no delay if the action is not set to Quarantine. Otherwise, the mails are quarantined and delayed.
