Effect on IMSVA
Only those messages with encryption and decryption tasks will be affected.
For outgoing messages
During the maintenance period, IMSVA will not be able to encrypt or decrypt messages. It will trigger the Encryption Exception rule. The default action is to quarantine the mail and notify the original mail recipient.
To configure the default action, go to the IMSVA UI > Policy > Scanning Exception > Encryption Exception.
For incoming messages
During the maintenance period, IMSVA will not be able to decrypt the encrypted messages. It will trigger the “Default rule for unable to decrypt message” rule. The default action is quarantine the mail and notify the original mail recipient.
To configure the default action, go to the IMSVA UI > Policy > Policy List > Default rule for unable to decrypt message.
Administrators can also consider modifying the Notify settings to send a notification to the original sender to ask them to resend the email after the maintenance has been completed.
Recovering the quarantined messages
Once the maintenance is complete, administrators may check the quarantined emails from the web console (assuming exception handling is set to quarantine) and reprocess the messages.
To easily identify the quarantined emails during the maintenance period, administrators can create a new quarantine area and set IMSVA to quarantine those mails in the new created quarantine area before the maintenance.
Perform the following actions to prepare IMSVA for the scheduled maintenance:
  1. Create a new quarantine area.
Go to the IMSVA UI > Mail Areas & Queues > Settings > Add to create a new quarantine area and name it “Encryption_Quarantine”.
  2. Set the Encryption Exception rule to quarantine emails to the newly created "Encryption_Quarantine" quarantine area.
Navigate to Policy > Scanning Exception > Actions for Encryption Exception and set the quarantine action to “Encryption_Quarantine” quarantine area.
  3. Set the “Default rule for unable to decrypt message” rule to quarantine the mails to the “Encryption_Quarantine” quarantine area.
Go to Policy > Policy List > Default rule for unable to decrypt message and set the quarantine action to “Encryption_Quarantine” quarantine area.
  4. Once the maintenance is complete, administrators can query the quarantined mails in “Encryption_Quarantine” and reprocess the quarantined messages.
Navigate to Mail Areas & Queues > Query and search the mails in the “Encryption_Quarantine” quarantine area.
  5. Reprocess the quarantined mails in “Encryption_Quarantine” that were quarantined within the maintenance period. Once the emails are reprocessed, they will work well with IMSVA without any issues.
