After taking snapshots of the virtual machines (VMs) protected by DSVA for backup purposes, they become unresponsive.

New patch updates were release by VMware (VMware ESXi 5.5, Patch ESXi550-201412401-BG: Updates esx-base [2096282] ) to address issues on unresponsive VMs. For more information, refer to this VMware Knowledge Base article: VMware ESXi 5.5, Patch ESXi550-201412401-BG: Updates esx-base (2096282).
