VMware tools are not installed or not working in InterScan Messaging Security Virtual Appliance (IMSVA) 9.0

After installing IMSVA 9.0 on an ESXi 5.5 server, VMware tools are not running or appear to be not installed.

You are also not able to install the open source version open-va-tools using the Yum Package Manager from CentOS.

VMware tools are no longer pre-installed in IMSVA version 9.0, following the appliance's move to CentOS. You have to install VMware tools manually.
