"STATUS_UNC_FAILURE" error appears when manually updating the Deep Security Relay Agent

When you manually update the Deep Security Relay Agent using the instructions in KB 1060674, it may fail with "STATUS_UNC_FAILURE" error.

The iaurelay.log may show either of the following snippets:

The errors appear when the update bundle package didn't contain either of the following:

  • update components from older version of Deep Security Agents (9.0 and below)
  • pattern files from all regions

To prevent the issue:

 
This procedure is only applicable if all the deployed agent versions are 9.5 or higher.
  1. Apply the update bundle package by following the procedure in this article: Manually updating the Deep Security Relay Agent (DSR).
  2. Open the Deep Security Manager console.
  3. Navigate to Administration > System Settings > Updates.
  4. Uncheck the following:
    • Support 9.0 (and earlier) Agents
    • Download Patterns for All Regions.
  5. Go to Computers.
  6. Right-click the Relay where you applied the update, and choose Download Security Updates. Make sure that the event logs show "Pattern Update on Agents Successful".
