Host needs a reboot to restore Anti-Malware Protection after upgrading to Deep Security 10.0 or higher version

Summary

When upgrading from Deep Security Agent (DSA) 9.6 SP1 Patch 1 U5 with enabled Anti-Malware to version 10.0, a reboot will be required to complete the upgrade. This happens to DSA running on indows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 10, Windows 10 TH2, Windows 10 RS1, Windows 2012, Windows 2012 R2, or Windows 2016 platforms. A reboot may also be required when upgrading from other earlier versions of DSA.

The following event will appear on Deep Security Manager (DSM):

Deep Security Agent (DSA) 10.0 upgrade causes the Anti-Malware Protection's offline status. Host requires a system reboot because it needs to restore the Anti-Malware service. To reproduce the issue, use DSA Build 10.0.0.1588 to upgrade and run it on Windows 8, 8.1, 10, 2012, or 2012 R2. The Anti-Malware feature would be offline.

Fresh installation of Deep Security 10.0.1592 also causes Anti-Malware Protection's offline status for about 10 minutes in both Deep Security Manager (DSM) and Notifier. Afterwards, Anti-Malware will be back online.

1 DSA 9.6 SP1 supports Windows 10 and 10 TH2.

2 DSA 9.6 SP1 U4 supports Windows 10, 10 TH2, and RS1.

3 DSA 9.6 SP1 U5 supports Windows 10, 10 TH2, RS1, and Server 2016.

4 DSA 10.2, 10.3, and 11.0 only support Windows 10, 10 TH2, RS1, RS2, and Server 2016 and no longer supports Windows XP, Vista, 2003, and 2003 R2.
