This notification is an important reminder that Trend Micro OfficeScan version 11.0 will reach its official End-of-Life (EOL) date on October 17, 2018. Customers who have not yet upgraded to the latest version of OfficeScan (currently version XG) should make arrangements to do so as quickly as possible in order to ensure there are no disruptions in your organization’s endpoint security after this date.
OfficeScan 11.0 with Service Pack 1 installed will still be supported for another year, October 31, 2019. We advise that plans be made to move to OfficeScan XG prior to that End-of-Life date.

What exactly happens after the EOL date?
After the EOL date of October 17, 2018, standard support services for OfficeScan version 11.0 will no longer be officially available. This also means that Trend Micro will no longer develop hot fixes or patches for this version. Regular pattern updates may continue for a limited time after this date, but it is not guaranteed and may stop at any time after the EOL date.
OfficeScan 11.0 works just fine in our environment. What are the benefits of upgrading to the latest version?
First and foremost, as mentioned above, OfficeScan 11.0 will be officially be considered EOL, which means that Trend Micro may not be able to assist you with any product support or malware issues you may encounter on this version.
Second, the latest version of OfficeScan 11.0 Service Pack 1 includes several new key features and enhancements, especially around areas such as ransomware protection, enhanced security, encryption and communication features, and support for the latest client operating systems (Windows 10). New benefits are great – but are there any other “technical” reasons to upgrade?
Security administrators should already be aware that several major vendors, including Microsoft, have begun to deprecate and retire support for SHA-1 certificates. This means that software using older technology may encounter serious issues when trying to install or even update in some cases on certain platforms. The latest critical patches for OfficeScan 11.0 SP1 includes support for more secure SHA-2 to ensure that there will be no issues in the near future with certificates.
Another important technical reason to upgrade is that any vulnerabilities that may be found in OfficeScan will only be addressed and fixed in the currently supported versions of the product. This means that users on unsupported versions may be potentially exposed.
