Problem Description

Initially, Smart App Control runs in evaluation mode. If Windows considers the endpoint a good candidate for Smart App Control, then it will automatically be turned on.

When Smart App Control is turned on, it can potentially block the installation, upgrade, and uninstallation of Trend Micro Deep Security Agent. The following are the error messages of each issue:

  1. Installation failure

    Error Message of Deep Security Installation Failure

    Error message: There is a problem with the Windows Installer package. A DLL required for install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.

  2. Upgrade failure

    Error Message of Deep Security Upgrade Failure

    Error message: There is a problem with the Windows Installer package. A DLL required for install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.

    Server Event Error Description of Deep Security Upgrade Failure

    Server error event: Unable to complete the operation due to the following error on the Agent/Appliance: Failed to download upgrade packages: check agent logs.

  3. Uninstallation failure

    Error message: There is a problem with the Windows Installer package. A DLL required for install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.

Workaround

User will need to turn off Smart App Control to allow the installation of Trend Micro Deep Security Agent.
