The IDS capability in Worry-Free Services Firewall was designed to detect a limited set of network intrusion activities on legacy Microsoft Windows operating systems that have reached End of Life (EOL). These operating systems are no longer supported by the Worry-Free Services agent.

In addition, the attack techniques monitored by this feature have already been mitigated through Microsoft security patches and architectural improvements in newer Windows versions. As a result, the IDS feature no longer provides effective protection on supported platforms and has become redundant.

To ensure proper operation on supported environments, TrendAI™ will remove the IDS feature from the Worry-Free Services Firewall.

For reference, the following network attacks were monitored by the Worry-Free Services Firewall IDS:

  • Too Big Fragment
  • Ping of Death
  • Conflicted ARP
  • SYN Flood
  • Overlapping Fragment
  • Teardrop
  • Tiny Fragment Attack
  • Fragmented IGMP
  • LAND Attack

Retirement Schedule

This feature is expected to be removed from the Worry-Free Services security agent and web console on April 20, 2026 maintenance.

Take note of the following reminders:

  • The security agent will no longer support Intrusion Detection System features, regardless of prior configuration. This setting would be disabled when the feature has been removed.
  • The enable_ids parameter used in Worry-Free Services Service Management API (SMPI) will become non-functional:
    • The parameter will not produce any operational effect.
    • No error will be returned if the parameter is supplied in API calls.
  • The enable_ids parameter is used on the following HTTPS requests:

    GET /SMPI/{version}/service/wfbss/api/policies/default
    GET /SMPI/{version}/service/wfbss/api/policies
    PUT /SMPI/{version}/service/wfbss/api/policies
