How do I: Shutdown the SMS, IPS or TPS device?

Due to maintenance issues or other problems you may need to perform a system shutdown, TippingPoint devices provide for this eventuality.

SMS:

 

From the CLI;

To shutdown and power-off the system run the command shutdown. The --force option will reboot the system without prompting for confirmation. 

Usage

shutdown (the SMS will request shutdown confirmation)
shutdown --force (the SMS will NOT request shutdown confirmation)

 

From the Client interface;

1. Login to the SMS via the client interface
2. Go to the Admin tab
3. Click the Shutdown button
4. Click the Yes button when asked "Are you sure you want to shutdown the SMS server?"

 

IPS/TPS:

From the CLI;

 

Note: If the device is under SMS control you will have to unmanage the device in order for the CLI commands to work.

 

IPS Commands

  • Unmanage: config t no sms
  • Manage: config t sms


TPS Commands

  • Unmanage: sms unmanage
  • Manage: sms manage


Shutdown Commands

halt (the IPS will request shutdown confirmation)
halt now (the IPS will NOT request shutdown confirmation) 
halt <seconds> (enter the time for shutdown 1-3600 seconds)

 

From the LSM;

The Local Security Manager (LSM) does not provide a shutdown function via the web interface, shutdown can only be performed via the CLI.
