Symptoms

  • Upgrade process halts at 50% (not always 50%) with no further progress.
  • Unable to ping the Deep Discovery Analyzer (DDAN) management IP address.
  • Web console interface of DDAN is inaccessible.

Root Cause

The issue is caused by a conflict between the DDAN management interface and the Dell iDRAC remote management controller when the "OS to iDRAC Passthrough" feature is enabled.

This feature allows the host OS to communicate directly with iDRAC over a shared network interface, which can cause network conflicts preventing access to the DDAN management IP during or after upgrade.

Resolution

Follow these steps to resolve the upgrade stall and regain access to the DDAN management interface:

Step 1: Access the iDRAC Interface

  1. Connect to the Dell iDRAC web interface using its IP address.
  2. Log in with your iDRAC administrator credentials.

Step 2: Disable OS to iDRAC Passthrough

1. Log in to the iDRAC web interface: Use your credentials to access the iDRAC web portal.
2. Go to iDRAC Settings: From the main menu, click on iDRAC Settings.
3. Select Connectivity: In the drop-down menu, click on Connectivity.
4. Expand OS to iDRAC Pass-through: Locate and expand the OS to iDRAC Pass-through section.
5. Set the State: Change the State to "Disabled"
6. Apply Changes: Click Apply to save your selection, then click OK to complete the process.

Note: The exact menu names may vary slightly depending on iDRAC version.

For erlated issue and instructions, refer to the official Trend Micro advisory on this issue: After updating Deep Discovery Analyzer iDRAC’s firmware, the management interface (eth0) may become unresponsive.

Step 3: Reboot the DDAN Appliance

  1. From the iDRAC interface, initiate a reboot of the DDAN server.
  2. Wait for the appliance to fully restart.

Step 4: Verify Connectivity

  1. Ping the DDAN management IP address to confirm network connectivity.
  2. Access the DDAN web console through a browser using the management IP.
  3. Confirm that the firmware upgrade has completed successfully (version 7.5.1159 or later).

Additional Notes

  • If the upgrade remains stuck or issues persist, consider performing a fresh installation of the latest DDAN firmware (version 7.6) followed by reimporting existing images.
  • Always ensure backups of configurations and images are taken before performing upgrades or fresh installations.

By disabling the OS to iDRAC Passthrough feature and rebooting the appliance, the network conflict is resolved, allowing the upgrade to complete and restoring access to the DDAN management interface.
