To resolve this issue:

  1. Look for the alias in SharePoint DSN.

Always back up the whole registry before making any modifications. Incorrect changes to the registry can cause serious system problems.

    Path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Web Server Extensions\12.0\Secure\ConfigDB
    Key: dsn

For example, "dsn"="Data Source=MOSS;Initial Catalog=mossfarm1_farm_config;Integrated Security=True;Enlist=False". The alias name is "MOSS".

  2. Configure the alias in both 32-bit and 64-bit SQL Server Client Network Utilities by launching the following:
    • C:\Windows\SysWOW64\cliconfg.exe
    • C:\Windows\cliconfg.exe
