Error "Database is currently unavailable" when attempting to login to ScanMail for Exchange (SMEX) UI
When receiving this error logging onto Scanmail for Exchange (SMEX) User Interface (UI). "The ScanMail database is currently unavailable. However, ScanMail is still protecting the email traffic using locally cached configuration". This issue may also lead to the failure of the Scanmail_Master service to restart if manually done so from within the services.msc. In some cases, ScanMail for Microsoft Exchange Master Service (Scanmail_Master service) and ScanMail for Microsoft Exchange Remote Configuration Server may not start after a server reboot.

Removing the default ScanMail for Exchange (SMEX) access for all local and domain administrators
It is the default behavior of SMEX that Administrators of ScanMail (Local Administrators, Domain Admins and Server Management accounts) have access to the SMEX UI irrespective of if they are listed under Administration > Access Control.
