The issue occurs due to any of the following:
- Your username and/or password are invalid.
- You are using an account without administrator privileges.
- Windows Firewall blocks incoming or outgoing connection on the ports used by Trend Micro.
- If you are using Windows XP, the target XP machine uses the Simple File Sharing feature.
- If you are using Windows Vista, the File and Print Sharing feature is disabled or the Remote Registry is not running.
To resolve the issue, do one of the following:
For Windows XP
- Make sure that you are using the correct username and password and your account has local administrator rights.
- Disable your Windows Firewall.
- If the target machine is using Simple File Sharing, disable this feature.
- Double-click the My Computer icon.
- Click Tools > Folder Options.
- Click View, and then uncheck Use simple sharing (Recommended).
- Click Apply > OK.

For Windows Vista, 7, 8.X, 10
- Make sure that you are using the correct username and password and your account has local administrator rights.
- Turn off your Windows Firewall.
- Enable the File and Print Sharing feature. For the procedure, refer to this Microsoft article: Configuring File and Printer Sharing Behavior in Windows Vista.
- If the Remote Registry Service is not running, set the service to start automatically:
- Click Start > Run.
- Type “services.msc”.
- Right-click Remote Registry, and then click Properties.
- Set the startup type to Automatic.
- Click OK.
