Use ImgSetup

Requirement: Network connection to Apex One server is required when launching ImgSetup.exe to change the GUID of Apex One client.

To use ImgSetup.exe:

  1. Install the operating system, the preferred applications, and the Apex One client software on a computer that will be used as source of the disk image.
  2. Copy the imgsetup.exe file to the client machine.

  3. Run imgsetup.exe as Administrator.

A RUN registry key will be created under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.

  4. Use your disk-imaging application to create a disk image of the OfficeScan/Apex One client.
  5. Deploy the image created by the application.

When the newly-imaged machine is being started for the first time, imgsetup.exe will automatically start and create a new GUID value. The client will report this new GUID to the server and then the server will create a new record for the new client.

The Image Setup tool creates a new GUID, but it does not change the computer name in the Apex One database. To avoid having two machines with the same name, you must manually change the computer name or domain name of the cloned Apex One client.

Generate GUID

There are times that Imgsetup.exe tool does not run after rebooting due to UAC. When this happens, you need to generate a new GUID:

  1. Unload the Apex One agent.
  2. Remove the GUID value from the following registry hive:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\TrendMicro\PC-cillinNTCorp\CurrentVersion\GUID=

  3. Shut down the machine (to keep the agent unload status).
  4. Convert the machine to a template.
  5. Perform provisioning of a new VM.

After a new GUID is generated, the agent will report to the default domain or specified domain depending on the agent grouping setting.

Verify Deployment

To verify if the Apex One agent disk imaging deployment is successful:

  1. Verify if the system tray icon of the Apex One agent appears as "Online".
  2. Log on to the web console, choose the Agents menu > Connection Verification.
  3. Click Verify Now.
  4. Open the client console of the cloned Apex One clients.
  5. Right-click the agent in the system tray and choose Component Versions.
  6. Verify if the GUID is different from that of the source Apex One client.
