Below are instructions on how to find SMEX product information:
Use any of the following options to look for the SMEX activation code:
Option 1: Using the SMEX management console
- Launch the SMEX management console via the Windows Start menu.
- Enter the Username and Password the click "Enter". The SMEX management console will appear.
- To view the License Information, go to Administration > Product License.
Option 2: Verify the Activation Code via the Registry
- On the server hosting both Microsoft Exchange and SMEX, open the Registry Editor.
Always back up the whole registry before making any modifications. Incorrect changes to the registry can cause serious system problems.
- Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Trend Micro\ScanMail for Exchange\Current Version.
- Look for the "PR_AC" value.
Option 3: Use the Online Registration (ORL) site
- Open a web browser and go to Trend Micro's Online Registration site.
- Provide the login ID and password then click the Log On button.
- If you do not know the log on credentials, then contact Trend Micro Technical Support and provide the following details:
- Account number (if any)
- Company Name
- Customer Name
- Email Address
- Phone Number
- License Certificate (if you want to change the email address in the OLR account)
Use any of these two options to look for the SMEX product version information:
Option 1: Using the SMEX management console
- Launch the SMEX management console via the Windows Start menu.
- Enter the username and password then press "Enter". The SMEX management console will appear.
- To view the product version information, go to the right top of the page and click About.
Option 2 : Verify the product version via the Registry
- On the server hosting both Microsoft Exchange and SMEX, open the Registry Editor.

- Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\TrendMicro\ScanMail for Exchange\Current Version.
- Look for the values "Version", "Build" and "PatchBuild".
A value of 1 for the Installed key indicates that the Critical Patch is installed.
Use any of these two options to look for the SMEX Scan Pattern and Engine Version information:
Option 1: Using the SMEX management console
- Launch the SMEX management console via the Windows Start menu.
- Enter the username and password then press "Enter". The SMEX management console will appear.
- To view the Pattern & Engine version information, go to Summary > Update Status. You may also click the Real-time monitor item on the top of the SMEX management console. The information can also be viewed in the new pop-up window.
Option 2: Checking the engine file properties:
- TMASE engine version
- Nagivate to the folder : \\Trend Micro\Smex\engine\TMASE\primary
- Right click the file "tmaseng.dll" and choose Properties > Details > File Version.
- TMUFE engine version
- Nagivate to the folder : \\Trend Micro\Smex\engine\\TMUFE\primary
- Right click the file "tmufeng.dll" and choose Properties > Details > File Version.
- VSAPI version
- Nagivate to the folder : \\Trend Micro\Smex\engine\vsapi\primary
- Right click the file "vsapi64.dll" and choose Properties > Details > File Version.
