Vulnerability Details

These CPs resolve the following in affected versions of Trend Micro OfficeScan 11.0 SP1 and XG:

  • CVE-2019-18187: CVSSv3 8.2 – Affected versions of OfficeScan could be exploited by an attacker utilizing a directory traversal vulnerability to extract files from an arbitrary zip file to a specific folder on the OfficeScan server, which could potentially lead to remote code execution (RCE). The remote process execution is bound to a web service account, which depending on the web platform used may have restricted permissions. An attempted attack requires user authentication.

Please note – Trend Micro has observed active attempts of potential attacks against this vulnerability in the wild. Customers are highly encouraged to update to the latest versions as soon as possible.

Mitigating Factors

Exploiting these type of vulnerabilities generally require that an attacker has access (physical or remote) to a vulnerable machine. In addition to timely application of patches and updated solutions, customers are also advised to review remote access to critical systems and ensure policies and perimeter security is up-to-date.

However, even though an exploit may require several specific conditions to be met, Trend Micro strongly encourages customers to update to the latest builds as soon as possible.
