Trend Micro Apex One: Real-time Scan: Scan Network Drive Feature Retirement

  • Trend Micro has decided to retire the "Scan Network Drive" option under Real-time Scan settings. This option was provided to scan network drives or folders mapped to the Security Agent endpoint during Manual or Real-time Scan.

    However, this may result in potential interoperation conflict due to the network file being accessed/scanned by multiple endpoints with Security Agents.

    To prevent accidental configuration, this setting will be removed from the product server and agent side user interface.

    "Scan Network Drive" option will remain available on Manual Scan.

  • Retirement Schedule:
    • Apex (SaaS) has removed this feature from Apex One as a Service July 2022 maintenance.
    • Apex Central has removed this feature from July hotfix release.
    • Apex One (On-premise) will remove this feature from December 2022 Service Pack 1.

    If needed, this feature can be restored via following steps:

    Show "Scan network drive" option on the Apex Central console

    1. Configure the key in C:\Program Files (x86)\Trend Micro\Control Manager\WebUI\WebApp\widget\repository\widgetPool\product\OSCE\enableFeature.json
      "EnableScanNetwork":true
    2. Save the enableFeature.json.
    3. Reload the Apex Central page.
    4. Check the "Scan network drive" option.

    Show "Scan network drive" option on the Apex One Console

    1. Add the hidden key in C:\Program Files (x86)\Trend Micro\Apex One\PCCSRV\ofcscan.ini
      [Global Setting]
      EnableScanNetwork=1
    2. Save the ofcscan.ini.
    3. Reload the Apex One page.
    4. Check the "Scan network drive" option.

    Notes:

    • Apex Central requires Build 6138 or above.
    • If the Apex One hidden key is not enabled/undefined, Scan Network Drive for Real-time scan will be force-disabled regardless of the original setting after the retirement module is applied.
    • To avoid force disabling of Network scan, user needs to apply the Apex One settings before applying December 2022 SP1.

Trend Micro Apex One Data Loss Prevention: Peer-to-Peer and PGP Encryption Support Retirement

  • This decision has been made due to the present low market use of both P2P and PGP encryption software. Trend Micro highly recommends uninstalling P2P and PGP applications on user machines if they are not critical to the business. Customers who further require monitoring of these software are encouraged to utilize the Application Control feature of Apex One, which can be configured by following these steps.
  • Retirement Schedule:
    • Apex One (SaaS): TBD
    • Apex One (On-premise): TBD
