NOTES:
  • It is highly recommended that a "maintenance" window be scheduled for this procedure.
  • It is highly recommended that a snapshot/backup be created before upgrading the device.
  • It may be necessary to update a standalone IPS license if the update is not permitted due to an out-of-date license on the IPS.

 

Download TOS Software from TMC

  1. In a web browser, open https://tmc.tippingpoint.com. If you have not already done so, create a TMC account using your Customer ID and Serial Number.
  2. From the top menu bar on the TMC home page, click Releases  > Software > model type > model number.
  3. Locate the package you want to download and perform one of the following actions:
    • Click View to review the information about the package, and then click Download.
    • Click Download to download the package without reviewing the package information.
  4. Follow the download instructions for your specific browser.
 

 

Upgrade the TPS/ via the LSM

  1. From your web browser, login to the TPS LSM
  2. If required, remove the IPS from SMS control (System > SMS). Click Unmanage)
  3. Create a snapshot of the IPS (System > Update > Snapshots). Enter a snapshot name and click Create Snapshot)
  4. Install the TOS (System > Update > System, DV, Licenses), click Install.
  5. Click Browse to select the update package file that you downloaded from the Threat Management Center.
  6. Click Open to select the package.
  7. Click Install to install the software update.
  8. If required, restore SMS control (System > SMS) and click Manage)

 

From the SMS

SMS Step 1: Download the TOS Software via the SMS

  1. Log in to the SMS from a client.
  2. On the SMS toolbar, navigate to the Devices > All Devices and expand the tab.
  3. Select the TippingPoint OS tab.
  4. Do one of the following:
    • Click Download From TMC.
    • Right-click the TOS Inventory screen and select the Download from TMC item.
    • On the top menu bar, select File > Download TOS from the TMC item.
  5. The SMS contacts the TMC checks the versions and begins the download of any available updates for the TOS software.
  6. The file displays in the TOS Inventory section and is ready to be distributed.
  7. When completed proceed to SMS Step 3.

SMS Step 2: Import TOS Software from a File

  1. In a web browser, open https://tmc.tippingpoint.com. If you have not already done so, create a TMC account using your Customer ID and Serial Number.
  2. From the top menu bar on the TMC home page, click Releases  > Software > model type > model number.
  3. Locate the package you want to download and perform one of the following actions:
    • Click View to review the information about the package, and then click Download.
    • Click Download to download the package without reviewing the package information.
  4. Follow the download instructions for your specific browser.
  5. In the SMS Client, open the Devices > TippingPoint TOS screen.
  6. Do one of the following:
    • Click Import.
    • Right-click the Inventory screen and select Import from the menu.
    • On the top menu bar, select File > Import > Import TOS Software from a File menu item.
  7. In the Choose File dialog, locate the downloaded file and click OK.
  8. After the file imports, the file will display in the TOS Inventory section and be ready to be distributed.
  9. When completed, proceed to SMS Step 3.

SMS Step 3: Distribute the TOS

  1. In the TOS Inventory, select a TippingPoint OS entry.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • Click Distribute.
    • Right-click and select the Distribute menu item.
    • On the top menu bar, select the File > Distribute TOS to Device menu item.
  3. From the "Targets" list, select the device to upgrade.
  4. Click OK to commence the distribution.
  5. The distribution process is displayed in the Distribution Progress section.
