Pre-Requirement

Currently, device control exception involving specific Vendor and Model names is only available for USB disk drives.

Detailed Steps

Executing ListDeviceInfo.exe will generate a set of reports in both .html and .csv formats. However, it is possible for ListDeviceInfo report to have a certain field left as blank.

The .csv format report is available starting from DLP module 6.2.1157.

For example:

ListDeviceInfo

ListDeviceInfo

As shown in the snapshots above, ListDeviceInfo reports could sometimes be missing values necessary for adding a specific item to the approved device list. Normally, all 3 fields of Vendor, Model and Serial ID need to be exact matches for the device exception to function properly on a specific device; replacing any of the values will make the exception invalid. For this reason, users should never attempt to fill these blank fields with values base on assumption as it would most likely fail to match with the detected device.

Instead, the blank fields can be replaced with asterisk (*) symbols while being added to the approved device(s) list; but doing so could potentially allow unwanted device to become accessible.

For instance:

ListDeviceInfo

As shown in the example above, replacing a field with asterisk could allow additional devices from being accessed.
